Deputy Minister Arun Hemachandra Meets Officials of the HRD of Korea

Focus on Korean Employment Quotas and Waiting List Issues

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment, Arun Hemachandra, met with officials of the Human Resources Development Service of Korea (HRDK) in Seoul yesterday (24).

The meeting was attended by Mr. Lim Seung Mook, Vice President for Foreign Workforce and Global Employment of HRDK, along with a delegation of senior representatives.

Discussions focused on further strengthening the Sri Lanka–Korea labour partnership under the Employment Permit System (EPS), enhancing Sri Lanka’s participation in the Employment Permit System, and expanding cooperation beyond the existing framework.

Special attention was also given to matters relating to employment quota allocations, issues concerning waiting lists, improving transparency and procedural efficiency, and strengthening Korean language proficiency and workplace discipline among Sri Lankan workers. Enhancing pre-departure orientation and technical training for prospective workers was also discussed, Deputy Minister Hemachandra stated.

The Deputy Minister emphasized Sri Lanka’s commitment to building deeper institutional partnerships for skills development, ensuring the protection of Sri Lankan workers, improving professional and employment standards, and developing a skilled workforce capable of meeting global expectations with professionalism and reliability.

The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Korea Mr K. Pathmanathan, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, Mr. Kosala Wickramasinghe, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency, Mr. Lal Hettiarachchi, and other officials.
