Job Opportunities in Japan for Sri Lankan Electricians – Sri Lanka and Japan Sign MoU

A special Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) providing employment opportunities in Japan for Sri Lankan electricians was signed on 7th January 2026 at the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE).

This MoU was signed between Enterprise United Co-operative of Japan and the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency (SLFEA). The agreement was signed on behalf of Japan by Mr. Kazuhiro Hanzaki, Chairman of Enterprise United Co-operative, and on behalf of Sri Lanka by Mr. Lal Hettiarachchi, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency.

Under this agreement, employment opportunities in Japan’s electrical sector will be provided to Sri Lankan youth who possess National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ).

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be between 20 and 28 years of age
  • Have completed education up to G.C.E. Advanced Level
  • Possess an NVQ qualification
  • Knowledge of the Japanese language will be an added advantage
    (Japanese language training will be provided under this program)

This program has also received Cabinet approval, ensuring transparency and government oversight.

Japanese language training and technical skills development will be conducted at the
Sapugaskanda Vocational Training Centre of the National Youth Services Council.

According to Cabinet decisions, candidates will be selected from those registered with:

  • National Youth Services Council
  • Vocational Training Authority (VTA)
  • NAITA
  • Department of Technical Education & Training
  • SLBFE Job Bank

Only qualified and registered candidates will be selected.

All recruitments will be carried out strictly under the Government Foreign Employment Program through the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency, ensuring a safe, legal, and transparent recruitment process.
