The government today opened a new window to issue air tickets at low rates for Sri Lankan migrant workers traveling abroad. The initiative was launched under the patronage of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment, Mr. Arun Hemachandra, at the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency located on Nawala Road, Narahenpita.
Under this new scheme, air tickets will be provided to outbound migrant workers at prices lower than prevailing market rates. The facility is available to all Sri Lankans traveling overseas for employment, regardless of their destination country.
Present at the inauguration were Dr. B.S. Yalegama, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Employment; Mr. Kosala Wickramasinghe, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment ; Mr. Lal Hettiarachchi, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency; Mr. D.D.P. Senanayake, General Manager of the Bureau; Mr. Prasad Galappaththi, General Manager of the Agency; along with several senior officials and invited guests. The government views this initiative as a significant step toward supporting Sri Lankan migrant workers, who continue to play a vital role in strengthening the national economy through foreign remittances.
