The Colombo Process Active Group Meeting under three themes started today (12) under the leadership of the Minister. These active meetings will be held under three sectors of identification of skills and qualifications, affordable, fast and safe transfer of pressure, and the order of fair and ethical recruitment.
These 3 themed fields are chaired by the governments of Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The third day of the conference is expected to create a knowledge forum to discuss challenges and opportunities of supporting scientific workers in member countries returning to their homeland after foreign jobs.
The Colombo Process (CP) Regional Policy Dialogue Forum on Migration, under the leadership of the Minister, commenced today (12) in collaboration with IOM Sri Lanka. This three-day forum, running until December 14th, is structured around three Thematic Area Working Groups (TAWGs) chaired by the Governments of Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. The event will feature a combined meeting of three TAWGs: Skills and Qualifications Recognition (S & Q); the Cheaper, Faster, and Safer Transfer of Remittances (Remittances); and Fair and Ethical Recruitment Practices (FERP). This combined meeting will allow reflection on the synergies between the three thematic areas and provide an opportunity to share best practices among Colombo Process member states and observers, including Non-State Actors.
A key highlight of the forum is the launch of the “Regional Manual on Reintegration for South Asian Migrant Workers.” This valuable resource provides guidance on best practices and implementation methods for sustainable and inclusive solutions, with a specific focus on the gender-responsive reintegration of returning migrant workers.
Participating in the forum are representatives from eleven active Colombo Process Member States (CPMS), alongside observers from civil society, the private sector, trade unions, academia, SDC, UN agencies implementing the GOALS Programme, and other development partners. The forum will continue until December 14th, fostering collaboration and dialogue on critical migration issues and culminating in the launch of the Regional Manual.
