447 Sri Lankans to Begin Employment in Israel’s Construction Sector

SLBFE Media  May 5 — A group of 447 Sri Lankans is set to depart for Israel between May 7 and 14, 2025, to take up employment opportunities in the country’s construction sector. The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) organized a special awareness program yesterday (May 4) to prepare the selected workers for their new roles.

The program was conducted at the SLBFE auditorium using Zoom technology and included participants divided into ten groups. It aimed to educate the workers on various aspects of living and working in Israel, including labor laws, cultural norms, and safety practices.

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Israel, Mr. Nimal Bandara, addressed the participants, stressing the importance of maintaining professionalism, safety, and dignity in the workplace. “You must act correctly and efficiently while protecting the honor of Sri Lanka in the foreign country you serve,” he stated.

He also reassured the attendees that the Embassy is committed to ensuring the welfare of all Sri Lankan workers in Israel.

According to the SLBFE, nearly 2,000 Sri Lankan workers have already left for Israel’s construction sector in the first three months of 2025 alone, reflecting the growing demand for skilled labor in the industry.
